Record LinkedIn videos without losing your place
A short, steady talking-head video does well on LinkedIn. ClippCut keeps your script right under the lens, so you look at the viewer instead of your notes.
Step by step: record part by part
- Split the script with # lines. Start a line with # to begin a section: # Hook, # Tip, # Call to action. Under More, choose By section.
- Record one section at a time. ClippCut records the first section and stops at its end. Fluffed a line? Redo just that section; the others stay as they are.
- Review them as one video. Review plays the sections back to back as a single video, with captions running across them. Save it as one MP4.
Which shape for LinkedIn
Use 1:1 or 4:5 for videos in the feed and 16:9 if it will also go on YouTube or your website. Many people watch LinkedIn with the sound off, so captions matter.
Steps
- Open ClippCut on your laptop and allow the webcam. Make the browser window full screen.
- Paste your script, or start with one lesson from your work.
- Lower the prompter height in Settings, so the text sits just under the webcam.
- Record, trim, and save. LinkedIn accepts MP4.
What works on LinkedIn
- One lesson, under two minutes. Something you learned at work, a mistake you won’t repeat, or how you solved a problem your audience has.
- Your first sentence is the hook. Say the result or the surprising part first; the context can come after.
- Captions on. Draw them into the video (Pop is free), or upload the .srt file with the video.
- Light in front of you. A window facing you beats any light behind the laptop.
Write the post text separately: one or two lines that say what the video is about, so people know why to press play.
Looking professional on a laptop webcam
- Camera at eye level. Raise the laptop on books or a stand so you're not looking down into the lens.
- Light in front of you. Face a window or a lamp; light from behind turns you into a silhouette.
- Prompter close to the lens. Lower the prompter height so the text sits right under the webcam.
- Sound. A wired headset or a small USB mic sounds much better than a laptop microphone across a room.
A script structure for LinkedIn
Start with the situation in one sentence, say what you did or learned, and finish with what others can take from it. Keep it under two minutes, and write it as you'd tell a colleague, not as a press release. The LinkedIn video script follows this shape.
Questions
Can I use it on a work laptop?
Yes, if your browser can use the webcam. Nothing is installed, and your video stays on your computer until you upload it.
