One take, every shape
The teleprompters inside TikTok and Instagram make a video for that one app. ClippCut makes a 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, a 4:5 or 1:1 for the feed and a 16:9 for YouTube and LinkedIn, all from the same take.
Step by step: one take, every shape
- Frame inside the safe zones. Turn on Safe zones to see where TikTok, Reels and Shorts put their buttons and captions. Keep your face and words clear of them.
- Pick every shape you need. In Review, tick 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 and 16:9. Each version is reframed around you from the same take, with captions placed for that shape.
How each shape is made
- Taller or same-shape frames are cropped from your take, keeping your face near the top third where it sits in vertical video.
- Much wider frames (a vertical take made into 16:9) show your whole picture over a soft, blurred copy of itself, the way news and podcast clips do.
- Captions are placed for each shape, and kept clear of the TikTok and Reels buttons in 9:16.
Steps
- Record as usual. 9:16 is the best starting point for most people.
- In the review, tap the extra shapes under Make it for.
- Tap Share all or Save. ClippCut makes every shape in one pass, on your device.
Every shape from one take is part of ClippCut Pro.
Framing for every shape
Each shape is made from your take, so frame for the tightest one you'll use. In practice that means:
- Keep your head and shoulders in the middle of a 9:16 frame, with a little room above your head.
- Don't put anything important at the very top or bottom edges: a 1:1 or 4:5 version crops them.
- Hold your hands and props near your body if you'll also post a square version.
Which shape goes where
| Shape | Post it to |
|---|---|
| 9:16 | TikTok, Reels, Shorts, Stories |
| 4:5 | Instagram and Facebook feed |
| 1:1 | Feed posts, LinkedIn, carousels |
| 16:9 | YouTube, LinkedIn, websites and presentations |
Questions
Does it take longer to make four videos?
They’re made together in one pass, so it takes about as long as the video itself. On older phones, choose two shapes at a time.
